The British Heart Foundation (BHF) funds around millions of pounds of research each year, delivering life-saving breakthroughs that turn science fiction into reality – from stem-cell coated plasters to 3D printed hearts. For the charity, infrastructure is a resource critical for the core objective of a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases and supporting charitable donations which provide a major source of research funding.

We delivered a network transformation that will drive efficiency from reliable infrastructure and a service built to stand the test of time.
Challenge
Network transformation, a new CTO, and a legacy core infrastructure significantly past its usable lifespan created an urgent need to transform the IT infrastructure of the BHF. Since the talented BHF IT team's targeted skillsets could only be stretched so far, simply replacing existing hardware and software with the up-to-date equivalent wasn’t going to cut it.
BHF needed an organisation to complement the skill set of their existing team, implement a comprehensive solution and service which was appropriate to meet specific needs, and form a strategic partnership for the future. That’s where we came in.
Plan
We developed a comprehensive strategy that would complement the BHF IT team's skill sets whilst ensuring every penny invested would deliver a competitive and predictable return on investment.
Approach
We started with a consultative engagement to define specific business outcomes, maximise the opportunity for transformation, and incorporate a design for the physical installation and ongoing management.
The bold decision was then made to complete the implementation in aggressive timescales and that meant in one go. Thanks to the expertise of both teams, coupled with collaborative working, we were able to develop innovative migration approaches that mitigated risks, minimised downtime, and allowed the new environment to be commissioned quickly. All of this was supported by our dedicated transition team that ensured smooth implementation and handover into the managed service.
Outcome
The project was completed on time and within budget, delivering a network transformation that will drive efficiency over a 10-year strategy – and stand the test of time.
Understanding both the managed service offering and the automation available in the solution enabled us to spot an opportunity to innovate. Thinking of the people and giving focused training means tangible value today and guaranteed value for tomorrow.
