Results
We delivered a Cisco Meeting Server video conferencing solution that has revolutionised working patterns across Northamptonshire Police and its neighbouring forces. Around 5-6 video conferencing sessions now happen every day, eliminating time-consuming travel whilst enabling better decisions and swifter responses to fast-changing events. Staff benefit from remote working, boosting flexibility and allowing them to collaborate more effectively.
We enabled smarter collaboration with secure video conferencing, improving decision-making across the Force.
Officers no longer need to drive to police HQ, connecting instead at local offices or dialling in securely from home.
The solution is shared with neighbouring forces in Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, enabling seamless regional collaboration.
Challenge
With officers spread across a wide geographic area, key intelligence needed sharing and critical decisions had to be made throughout each day. Face-to-face meetings were consuming precious time and money.
The Northamptonshire Police did use various video conferencing services on an ad-hoc basis, but they needed a collaborative solution that would leverage their existing Cisco communications infrastructure, could be easily shared with neighbouring forces in Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, and would deliver significant operational benefits.
Plan
We worked with Northamptonshire Police to explore how they could leverage their existing Cisco Unified Communications Manager voice over IP system. We soon realised that a Cisco Meeting Server could be the 'glue' that brought the systems together.
Approach
We deployed Cisco Meeting Server, which is flexible, resilient, and ultra-easy to use – and requires virtually no training. The secure solution also features simple dialling through Active Directory which integrates into users' desktops and high-quality video capabilities to deliver a rich, two-way experience that captures important non-verbal communication.
Outcome
Smarter collaboration, remote working, call recording and other innovations are now available to all three forces. Working patterns have transformed dramatically, with 5-6 video conferencing sessions happening every day, alongside Chief Officer morning briefings over video to 10-20 colleagues – saving precious time and money for Northamptonshire. Scenes-of-crime officers and other teams can arrange conferences on the fly, enabling faster decision-making using tech that is both secure and intuitive.
The platform has opened a wealth of further opportunities for Northamptonshire and its neighbouring forces. At Nottinghamshire Police, over 20 conferencing rooms can use the Cisco service immediately, even though they were set up using different tech.
Secure connectivity is being arranged so councils, other agencies, and partners can join calls. Northamptonshire is exploring scheduled video appointments to widen access for citizens wishing to speak with police.

"Northamptonshire is a smaller force with a smaller budget, but we've always been keen on pushing the limits with IT. boxxe Group could see the bigger picture and they had good links with Cisco too. Instead of being rigid, they were flexible and pragmatic, focusing on the feasible – and it's delivered excellent results."
