For the first time in a decade, Microsoft is expanding its enterprise licensing line up with Microsoft 365 E7, a major milestone in the evolution of AI‑enabled productivity and security. As your trusted Microsoft partner, boxxe is pleased to share what we know - and what it means for your organisation.
What is Microsoft 365 E7?
Microsoft 365 E7 is a new, premium enterprise suite designed to bring AI, security, identity, and agent-based automation into a single unified platform. It is built for organisations ready to operationalise AI safely and at scale - moving beyond experimentation into full enterprise adoption.
E7 is positioned as the next evolution beyond Microsoft 365 E5, integrating the entire AI and security stack under one licence model and will be available on 1st May 2026.
What’s included in Microsoft 365 E7
The E7 suite bundles Microsoft’s most advanced tools into one offering:
Microsoft 365 E5
Core productivity, security, compliance, and identity foundation.
Microsoft 365 Copilot
Deeply integrated AI that reasons over your organisation’s content and enhances productivity across Office apps.
Microsoft Entra Suite
Enterprise-grade identity and access governance including Private Access, Internet Access, ID Governance and ID Protection.
Agent 365
The new governance and control plane for managing AI agents safely across the enterprise, integrating Defender, Entra, and Purview for end‑to‑end oversight.
This unified suite removes the need to stitch multiple licences together and creates a single, governed environment for AI workers and human workers to collaborate.
Why Microsoft built E7
Microsoft describes E7 as a suite designed specifically for the agentic AI era — where AI does not just generate content but takes action, executes plans, and completes multi‑step work across your digital estate.
This shift aligns people and AI under a single system of work, combining:
Deep security and governance
Cross‑suite intelligence
Enterprise‑grade AI infrastructure (backed by over $100B in investment)
General availability & pricing
Microsoft 365 E7 will be generally available on 1 May 2026 at:
$99 per user/month (with Teams)
$90.45 per user/month (without Teams)
Microsoft will also offer promotional adoption incentives to help organisations transition.
What is not yet confirmed
There are several areas where Microsoft has not yet provided sufficient detail for UK customers to take informed action:
UK pricing and commercial structure, including how E7 will be presented across enterprise agreements and public sector purchasing routes
How AI agents are licensed in practice, including whether usage‑based or hybrid models will apply
Clear guidance on migration, including which organisations Microsoft expects to benefit most from E7 in the short term
These unanswered questions are not unusual at launch, but they reinforce the need for caution and clarity rather than assumption.
Microsoft has yet to provide sufficient detail for UK customers to make fully informed decisions in several key areas:
UK pricing and commercial structure, including how E7 will be integrated into enterprise agreements and public sector procurement channels.
Licensing of AI agents in practice, such as whether usage-based or hybrid models will be adopted.
Comprehensive migration guidance, indicating which organisations are expected by Microsoft to gain the most from E7 in the short term.
While these outstanding questions are common at product launch, they underscore the importance of exercising caution and seeking clarity.
