Environmental and Sustainability Policy

Purpose

At boxxe, we recognise that our activities, operations as well as the products and services that we sell have the potential to have both positive and negative impacts on the environment. We are committed to continually enhancing our ISO 14001:2015-certified Environmental Management System (EMS). This helps us improve environmental performance and actively contribute to our community.

Scope

The scope of this policy is to manage environmental sustainability across boxxe’s operations. This applies to all boxxe employees and contractors.

Objectives

boxxe’s objectives under this policy are to:

  • protect the environment, including the prevention of pollution, reduction of waste and, where practical to do so, minimise the use of natural resources.

  • fulfil our legislative and compliance obligations

  • achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050 at the latest

  • maximise energy performance, reduce impacts associated with energy use by actively and responsibly managing energy consumption, and prioritising renewably-backed power supplies.

  • prioritise circular economy practices and take all necessary steps to follow the waste hierarchy, ensuring waste is diverted from landfill through reuse and recycling.

  • limit our water consumption and the production of pollutants to water, land and air.

  • prioritise the use of partners, suppliers and contractors who are managing and improving their environmental performance

  • ensure all boxxe people are aware of this policy, receive appropriate training and can provide feedback to improve our performance.

  • be open with our interested parties about our decisions and activities that we know will have, or are likely to have, an impact on our people and our environment.

  • implement a process of continuous improvement and innovation to enhance our environmental & sustainability performance, which includes engaging both externally and internally with customers, our people and other interested parties.

  • review, annually report, and improve our performance.

Responsibilities

  • It is the responsibility of every employee whether permanent, temporary, contractor or third party to adhere to this policy.

  • The Chief People Officer is the Executive responsible for Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG).

  • The Head of ESG is responsible for managing the EMS, developing strategies, guiding boxxe on best practices for environmental sustainability, and reporting performance.

  • The Estates & Facilities Manager and Warehouse Supervisors are responsible for the implementation of environmental measures across our sites.

  • The Internal Audit and Compliance Co-ordinator is responsible for conducting our internal audits of the EMS.

Consideration of environmental concerns and impacts shall be incorporated into our daily decision making and activities. Every boxxer is responsible and empowered to reduce our impact on the environment.

Monitoring and compliance measurement

Compliance with the policies and procedures for the Environmental Management System are monitored through our internal audit review, external independent reviews, our reporting process for incidents, feedback from our people, and our annual management review.

Legal and Regulatory

Our legal and regulatory obligations are documented in our Legal Tracker and reviewed at the Governance, Risk and Compliance Committee at least twice annually.

Training and awareness

All employees receive an initial induction on Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG). Annual compliance training is delivered through our in house learning platform as well as any additional specialist training appropriate for individual roles.

Compliance

The ESG team will verify compliance to this policy through internal and external audits. Any exception to the policy must be approved and recorded by the Head of ESG. The Policy is updated and reviewed annually.

Communication

This policy is communicated to employees, suppliers and sub-contractors and is made available to the public as required.
