Prioritising health and wellbeing at boxxe
Positive health and wellbeing are legitimate concerns in any organisation, with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) reporting the highest average of sick days in a decade at 7.8 days per employee, per year. Stress is cited as the one of the main causes, with 76% of respondents reporting stress-related absence over the past year — rising to 92% in organisations with more than 250 employees. If ever there was a time to prioritise your people, it's now, more than ever.
Health from head to toe
At boxxe, we spend a lot of time refining and reforming our health and wellbeing practices, to make sure our employees have the support they need to thrive. It’s definitely not a one-size-fits-all scenario — we take a unique holistic approach to make sure we can support the Mental, Physical, Social and Financial wellbeing of every boxxer. So, let’s break that down!
#1 Physical
According to CIPD “only 25% of companies offer all employees health plans that provide access to independent services like GP appointments, physiotherapy, chiropractors, or counselling.” boxxe is proud to be amongst that 25% offering;
A fully integrated Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) which includes up to 8 physiotherapy sessions a year and 24/7 remote GP appointments.
A WPA Opt-In, which offers 24/7 remote GP access and £100 each towards dentistry, optical treatment, therapy, and specialist consultations and tests.
Or a Vitality Health Insurance Opt-In, including access to mental health, cancer and menopause support, and even a discounted apple watch with freebie incentives to get you moving more.
Onsite Physical First Aiders.
Regular challenges which combine health and charitable initiatives. For example 5 of our amazing employees completed the Dell Management Challenge in 2023, raising £6,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity and Bowel Cancer UK.
A cycle to work scheme.
#2 Mental
We emphasise a culture of trust, to ensure everyone feels empowered and has the space needed to perform their jobs well. For us, that looks like:
Access to fully funded, completely confidential and unlimited mental health support from qualified mental healthcare professionals. When most companies limit sessions, we’ve made them unlimited because there’s no set time to get ‘better’.
A wellbeing hour each month to use as they please — hopefully something that brings them joy!
Sessions on preventing stress and burnout, wellbeing support, and menopause in the workplace.
On-demand wellness content, Wellness Action Plans, Stress Risk Assessments and tools like Viva Insights to work-life balance support.
Our Menopause Support Hub which includes access to our Menopause Policy, a Tailored Adjustment Plan, and Menopause Awareness Training.
1-2-1 lifestyle coaching sessions every year, with our EAP.
And we also have 17 incredible employees who are qualified Mental Health First Aiders, having completed training with St John’s Ambulance.
#3 Social
As a remote-first organisation with hybrid and flexible working options, the social aspects of supporting a person’s health and wellbeing can be some of the most challenging. That’s why we:
Measure performance by output, not time spent at a desk. If that means your latest idea came from a walk-and-talk meeting with a colleague, then that’s great — it’s fresh air, socialisation, exercise and ideation all in one.
Hold regular social networking opportunities.
And even encourage boxxers bring their babies along to events and awards — because you shouldn’t have to miss out on the wider boxxe life when you’re on maternity leave!
Created boxxe community as a force for good, to drive a positive impact for our people, our communities, and our planet.
Employees get 11.5 days annually to engage in charity or pro bono work, fostering a positive impact on our people, communities, and the planet.
You can check out our community page here to learn more.
#4 Financial
We pay the real living wage (rather than national minimum wage) as a starter for ten. But boxxers also benefit from:
Our comprehensive maternity policy offers 9 months of full pay to employees who have already worked a full year.
Savings and discounts on their everyday shopping, with Perkbox — every employee receives 50 flexi points (£5) per month.
Interest-free financial assistance loans, with HR support.
Financial support and guidance are available through the EAP.
We also work with Succession Wealth, a team of benefits brokers, who regularly give financial wellbeing talks and offer pension advice & more to our employees.
No matter what support our employees might need — be it physical, mental, social or financial — we try our best to deliver. People thrive when they’re treated as such…
And since they’re at the heart of everything boxxe does, helping them to be their best is critical to our success!
