Becoming a force for good in the local community.
Our team is passionate about making the world a better place. To do that we put people and the planet at the heart of everything we do — starting with our own HQ, here in York!
York Foodbank is one of the charities our boxxers regularly support during their community hours. As a registered charity, they depend on the support of local volunteers to deliver emergency food provision service. Part of a nationwide network of food banks supported by the Trussell Trust, York Foodbank provides three days worth of nutritionally balanced emergency food to local people in crisis — because no one in the community should have to face going hungry.
Our contribution
Help with a smile and a good dose of enthusiasm. Our boxxers have covered some of the core work done at the foodbank’s warehouse; receiving and acknowledging food, cash and card donations, weighing and sorting food, checking dates and the quality of donations, preparing packages and of course, hefting the crates of food on their way out to distribution! Alongside that, they’ve worked hard to engage with the public, distributing lists of most needed items and answering basic queries about the Foodbank.
Making an impact
Our boxxers have loved helping out at the Foodbank, a highlight being the annual food drive at Tesco, where they spent the day engaging with members of the public to raise awareness of the needs of those in crisis — as well as signposting which food donations would be most useful and nutritious. The team were delighted to play a big part in the food drive, resulting in an impressive 1294kg worth of food donations.
"Of particular note has been the positive and community focussed attitude of boxxe volunteers, who have all been genuinely interested in learning about how the Foodbank operates and the scale of the project in relation to local need. Their regular involvement at the warehouse has also made a vital contribution to the sorting and preparation of food donations without which we couldn’t provide the service we offer."
Our future plans
We’re keen to keep our close relationship with York Foodbank, having contributed a significant number of volunteer hours at the warehouse. In addition, our office is also set up to receive donations. We’ve got a collection point for donations, and we deliver these donations from the team and visitors to the office, to the foodbank once a week. Our partnership benefits not only the community but also our volunteers and the existing Foodbank team members. It’s a great way to bring people together, and many friendships have been made along the way.
Our advice
Adaptability has been one of the key aspects of our partnership with York Foodbank, so even if you can just offer a few hours of a morning or afternoon, having that willingness (and some flexibility!) to help where possible goes a long way.
If you’re looking to get involved, Adam Raffell would love to welcome other companies who can support the vast array of volunteer activity taking place across the city of York, not just at the Foodbank.
